The playhouse arrived with a broken front door. It’s pretty poorly made, so it broke during shipping. I proceeded to build it without the front door. Building the house takes a few hours.

But the really disappointing part is how it’s held up to a California winter. We’ve had the playhouse for just nine months now, and it’s roof has cupped and separated, revealing rusty fasteners. (Good thing the kids have their TDAP vaccine!) This playhouse is just junk – thin poor quality wood, staple fasteners, poor waterproofing. Save your money up and buy something better.

Oh, and I contacted the company, who suggested that I use an oil-based sealant at the beginning of every play season, and at any signs of weathering. I think that’d make sense if it had made it through the first winter, but the factory seal is inadequate in my opinion.

so this is an ADORABLE play house. We have gotten a BILLION comments about how cute it is. It was seriously a pain to put together. The instructions were confusing and the box arrived ripped open with a ton of the screws falling out of the bottom. Thankfully the screw is a universal screw that we already had in our garage so it wasn’t a huge issue, but I could see for someone who does not have a huge collection of screws or a lot of no how could be really be out of luck.

Anyways, I don’t think the state of the box had anything to do with the company but everything to do with the shipping. I think the company could have definitely put more thought into how they packaged the screws and such so that they wouldn’t be lose in the box and fall out in the event of mishap.

Other than those complaints… the house is great. It seems fairly sturdy and very stylish. I would recommend it to those who don’t mind doing the work.

    Better than I expected…, August 20, 2014

This playhouse turned out better than I expected. From an inauspicious start, the house came together well and seems sturdy enough for several years of moderate use. My five year old daughter and all of her friends seem to love it!

The box arrived damaged – which is surprising given that Amazon was the shipper and normally over-packages everything. I was immediately concerned it was missing parts, but due to luck alone, all was there. There was some minor damage to three of the panels, but not sufficient to return or contact KidKraft.

KidKraft has put a lot of thought and care into engineering a very good product. All parts fit well. Holes are all pre-drilled. This is important. The house is made from cedar. Cedar is normally weather resistant, but it is delicate to work with. You only want to install hardware into predrilled holes to prevent the wood panels from splintering.

My only criticism (minor) is that the instructions is a series of detailed explosion diagrams. There is no text! Be patient and observant. Look for tell-tales like where predrilled holes must be for the next step – this is almost like a “Where’s Waldo” puzzle. If you’re good at that type of thing and observant, it should work out well for you. If you become frustrated or try to jump ahead, it might not work as well. Plan at least three hours for the project.

NOTE: it does not come with a floor. The playhouse will sit directly on the ground unless you build a platform. I did build a platform, but from my own design with materials readily available at my local hardware store.
